LBJI :: Rehabilitation Services

Enhancing orthopedic services with physical rehabilitation

With an emphasis on pre-op and post-op patient education, Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute’s comprehensive physical rehabilitation program is often a large reason for a successful recovery. Our goals include outlining a realistic timeline for recuperation and helping you return to full function and normal activities as soon and safely as possible. Our clinicians maintain ongoing communication with the referring physician throughout the rehab process from the pre-op visit to discharge. Patient education is stressed enhancing patient expectations and a positive and realistic outcome.

Our house team of licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists (including certified hand therapists), physical/occupational therapy assistants and certified athletic trainers, provides the highest level of orthopedic rehabilitation that enhances the services our physicians provide.

Frequent educational seminars for our staff (and orthopedic physicians) ensure that we are staying abreast of current treatments and procedures.

Sports medicine patients are a large part of our practice. Working with a number of local high schools and colleges, our staff performs sports injury assessment (pre and post—injury). We screen athletes for potential weaknesses and suggest specific strength, agility and flexibility exercises to minimize the chance of future injuries. These services are offered with emphasis on education and communication with the parents, student athlete, and coach.

Rehabilitation treatment facilities are offered at Chesterton, Hobart, Portage, and Valparaiso.  Services include

  • Pre- and post-operative orthopedic conditions
  • Work-related injuries
  • Pre-employment screening
  • Work hardening/conditioning
  • Functional capacity evaluations
  • Sports-related injuries and conditions
  • Hand/occupational therapy
  • Neurologic conditions
