Your Questions Answered

LBJI Urgent Care Q&A

Do I need an appointment for Urgent Care?

LBJI Urgent Care accepts walk-in appointments, so you do not need to book an appointment to receive direct-to-specialist care.

LBJI Urgent Care is designed for bone, joint, and muscle injuries that require prompt attention but are not life-threatening emergencies. Our specialists treat sprains and strains, fractures, dislocations, sports injuries, workplace injuries, sudden back pain, and acute joint pain affecting areas such as the knee, shoulder, wrist, ankle, or elbow.

Unlike a traditional urgent care or emergency room, you’ll be evaluated by orthopedic specialists who focus exclusively on musculoskeletal conditions. If follow-up treatment is needed, our team can seamlessly coordinate your care with one of LBJI’s orthopedic physicians at the most convenient location for you.

If you are bleeding, have sustained a head injury, an animal bite, a burn, or are feverish, please visit your emergency room or call 911.

If you’re looking for non-urgent care, please contact LBJI to schedule an appointment with a specialist.

LBJI Urgent Care is open in Chesterton, Crown Point, and Portage 8am – 6pm Monday – Friday. Crown Point and Portage Urgent Care are also open Saturdays from 8am – 4pm.

Yes. LBJI Urgent Care offers on-site digital X-ray services, allowing our specialists to quickly evaluate fractures, dislocations, and other orthopedic injuries during your visit. Having imaging available on-site helps speed diagnosis and treatment, so you can begin your recovery without unnecessary delays.

If additional imaging or specialized testing is needed, our team can help coordinate the next steps before you leave the office.

Orthopedic Urgent Care is available at Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute locations in Chesterton, Crown Point, and Portage.

Your urgent care visit is billed as an office visit. If LBJI has an agreement with your insurance carrier, we will file the claim for you. Deductibles and co-payments are due at the time of your visit. LBJI Urgent Care does not accept Medicaid.

LBJI Orthopedic Urgent Care accepts most commercial insurance plans. At this time, orthopedic urgent care does not accept Medicaid or self-pay patients. If you have questions about your insurance coverage or whether your plan is accepted, please call our office before your visit.

Please bring the following items with you:

  • Current insurance card(s)
  • Current photo ID
  • Insurance co-payment, co-insurance, and/or deductible information, if applicable
  • Current list of all medications you are taking, including the name of the medication, dosage, the frequency you take the medication, and the reason for the medication. This list should include prescribed medications, herbal supplements, vitamins, over-the-counter medications, and any medications you are allergic to.
  • Medical history, including all prior treatments, surgeries, conditions, and illnesses, especially those related to your current concern.
  • Emergency contact information

Because LBJI Orthopedic Urgent Care does not require appointments, wait times can vary depending on patient volume and injury severity. Peak hours are typically 8–10 a.m. and 3–5 p.m., so visiting outside of those times may help reduce your wait.

Once you are checked in and called back for evaluation, patients are typically seen by a provider within approximately 15 minutes.

Yes, you can get a note for work or school from your urgent care provider. Please let your doctor know that you will need one during your appointment.
