Today, Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute is the region’s most comprehensive orthopedic practice, providing specialized care in sports medicine, joint replacement, spine care, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, trauma, pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation, podiatry, imaging, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pain psychology. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual, ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time, whether that means conservative treatment or advanced surgical intervention.
Our commitment extends well beyond the exam room. As a practice founded and led by physicians with deep roots in Northwest Indiana, we are proud to invest in the communities we serve. We sponsor more than 20 local athletic teams across the region, support student-athletes of all ages, and work alongside schools, organizations, and community partners to help keep Northwest Indiana healthy, active, and thriving.
That commitment to our community has been at the heart of our practice since its beginning. Founded more than five decades ago by Dr. Albin Jahns and later expanded by Drs. L. Dale Olson, Paul Alvarez, James Malayter, and other orthopedic specialists, the practice grew from a single office into what is now Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute. The vision was simple: create a comprehensive orthopedic destination where patients could access exceptional, specialized care close to home.
That vision continues today. With five convenient locations throughout Northwest Indiana, Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute remains dedicated to delivering expert orthopedic care with the compassion, accessibility, and personalized attention our communities deserve.
