Joint Revision Q&A

What is joint revision surgery?

Joint revision surgery is a procedure to repair or replace a previous joint replacement that is no longer functioning properly. It may be needed if the implant wears out, loosens, becomes infected, or if pain and instability return. The goal is to restore function, relieve pain, and improve your ability to move comfortably. The joint replacement experts at LBJI will evaluate your joint and sicuss the best next steps for your care.

Why would a joint replacement need to be revised?

Joint revision surgery is often more complex than the original joint replacement because it involves working around an existing implant and addressing underlying issues. It requires specialized expertise and careful planning. At LBJI, our joint revision surgeons use advanced techniques to achieve the best possible outcome.

Is joint revision surgery more complex than the first surgery? ?

Treatment depends on the type and severity of the injury. Many sports injuries can be treated with non-surgical care such as rest, physical therapy, and injections. More severe injuries, such as ligament tears or fractures, may require surgical intervention followed by a structured rehabilitation program.

Can a failed joint replacement be fixed without surgery?

In some cases, non-surgical treatment such as physical therapy, medications, or bracing may help manage symptoms. However, if the implant is damaged or loose, joint revision surgery is often the most effective solution. Your physician will help determine the best approach based on your condition.
