About Akshay Lakra | M.D.

Akshay Lakra, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee conditions, joint replacement, and orthopedic trauma. He treats a wide range of hip and knee conditions, including arthritis, fractures, avascular necrosis, osteonecrosis, hip dysplasia, and prosthetic joint infections.

Dr. Lakra’s practice focuses on helping patients reduce pain, stiffness, and mobility limitations that affect their quality of life. He emphasizes individualized care and works with patients to explore conservative treatment options, including physical therapy and injections, when appropriate. When surgery is recommended, he takes time to help patients understand their condition, treatment options, procedure, recovery expectations, and return-to-activity goals.

Dr. Lakra earned his medical degree from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, India. He completed his orthopedic residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, followed by a research fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. He then completed an orthopedic surgery fellowship at the Orthopedic and Spine Institute, part of NorthShore University Health, now Endeavor Health, in Chicago, Illinois.

His training includes advanced orthopedic techniques for hip and knee conditions, including computer-assisted navigation for total joint replacement, patient-specific instrumentation for total knee replacement, and technology-assisted total knee replacement.

Dr. Lakra is a resident member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is also an Arthroplasty in Training member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Across his practice, Dr. Lakra is committed to helping patients understand their diagnosis, compare treatment options, and move forward with a care plan that supports their mobility, function, and long-term quality of life.
