Justin P. Colanese, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery, joint reconstruction, and lower extremity reconstruction. His practice focuses on helping patients regain mobility and return to active lifestyles through personalized treatment plans that incorporate both advanced surgical techniques and evidence-based nonsurgical care. Dedicated to providing practical, patient-centered solutions, Dr. Colanese tailors every treatment approach to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual patient.
An Indiana native, Dr. Colanese has served patients throughout Northwest Indiana since joining Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute in 2019. He has extensive experience treating a wide range of orthopedic conditions, with expertise in foot and ankle disorders, joint replacement, fracture care, and reconstructive procedures. He believes that successful outcomes begin with a thorough understanding of each patient’s condition, lifestyle, and treatment goals.

Dr. Colanese earned his undergraduate degree from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. He then attended the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree.
Following medical school, Dr. Colanese completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He then pursued advanced specialty training through a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, where he gained extensive experience in complex foot and ankle reconstruction, joint replacement, trauma care, and sports-related injuries of the lower extremity.
Dr. Colanese is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society. His approach to patient care emphasizes education, collaboration, and individualized treatment plans designed to help patients achieve lasting pain relief and improved function.
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Colanese is spending time with his wife and young children. He also enjoys reading classical literature, boating, golfing, and attending Immanuel United Reformed Church in DeMotte.
