Eric K. Szczesniak, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in primary and revision hip and knee replacement, orthopedic trauma, and nonoperative care for sports and upper extremity conditions. He joined Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute in 2016 and focuses on helping patients reduce pain, restore mobility, and return to a better quality of life.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Szczesniak was drawn to medicine by a desire to serve others. His early education included extensive engineering coursework, and that mechanical background helped lead him to orthopedic surgery. For Dr. Szczesniak, joint replacement brings together technical precision and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in how patients move, function, and live.
Areas of Expertise Include:
Dr. Szczesniak earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where he developed a strong interest in total joint replacement.
He then completed advanced fellowship training in adult reconstruction and joint preservation at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, where he gained experience managing complex joint replacement cases and further refined his approach to hip and knee reconstruction.
Dr. Szczesniak is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
In his free time, friends and family are a priority, but he still finds time for his interest in aviation and related hobbies as well as running to stay active.
Dr. Szczesniak sees patients at Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute’s Chesterton and Portage locations.
