Understanding Joint Replacement

We offer a full range of options, from minimally invasive and partial joint procedures to total joint replacement and revision surgery. When conservative treatments no longer provide relief for hip, knee, or shoulder pain, LBJI’s experienced surgeons use advanced techniques to help you return to movement with greater comfort and confidence. When knees, hips, shoulders, or other joints become damaged from arthritis, an injury, or wear and tear, even the slightest movement can cause pain.

At LBJI, we recommend speaking with a joint replacement specialist if you have any of the following symptoms:

Joint Replacement Treatment Q&A

What is joint replacement surgery?

Joint replacement surgery is a procedure in which a damaged joint is removed and replaced with a prosthetic implant designed to restore smooth, natural movement. It is most commonly performed on the hip, knee, or shoulder. The goal is to relieve pain and improve function when other treatments are no longer effective

Do I need to have my joint replaced?

Joint replacement is not always necessary. Many patients find relief with non-surgical treatments such as physical therapy, medications, injections, or activity modification. If these options no longer reduce pain or improve function, your provider may recommend joint replacement as the next step.

When is joint replacement recommended?

Joint replacement is typically recommended when joint pain and stiffness significantly impact your daily activities and do not improve with conservative treatments. Common causes include advanced arthritis, joint degeneration, or injury. Your provider will evaluate your symptoms, imaging, and overall health to determine if surgery is appropriate.

How long does joint replacement last?

Modern joint replacements are designed to be durable and can last many years with proper care. Longevity depends on factors such as activity level, overall health, and the type of implant used. Your provider can help you understand what to expect based on your individual situation.
